This database is an index to Maine marriages that occurred between 1892 and 1996. However, it excludes the years 1967-76. Information provided in the index includes bride's name, bride's town and state of residence, groom's name, groom's town and state of residence, date of marriage, and marriage certificate number, if known. The index was created by the Maine Department of Human Services and obtained from the Maine State Archives. Both agencies are aware that the index does contain some errors that the original records do not.

Information listed in this index may provide you with enough information to order a copy of a marriage certificate. Requests for copies of marriage records from 1892-1922 should be sent to the Maine State Archives via e-mail. Marriage records dating after 1922 can be obtained from the Maine Department of Human Services, Office of Data Research and Vital Statistics by calling 207-287-3181 or mailing requests to 11 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333.
